Biohybrid plants

When nature meets nanotechnology

What if plants could become a new green technology? Researchers at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano have created the first fully bio-hybrid plant by integrating photosensitive nanoparticles directly into the growth process to boost sunlight absorption.

In the video, Manuela Ciocca—the study’s lead researcher—discusses the results: enhanced photosynthesis, increased CO₂ absorption, higher oxygen production, and superior growth compared to traditional plants, all without genetic modification.

This innovative approach opens up new possibilities for combating climate change, advancing sustainable agriculture, and developing the green energy systems of the future.
